  • Joined U. S. Army at age 18; stationed in Frankfurt Germany, and was one of the youngest managers of an Enlisted Men's Club
  • Opened first Wendy's Old Fashioned hamburgers restaurant November 15, 1969 in Columbus; began franchising the Wendy's concept in 1973
  • Enthusiastic supporter of charities including: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Children's Hospital in Columbus, Recreation Unlimited, The Ohio State University Cancer Research Institute and the Children's Home Society of Florida
  • Established the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in 1992
